CEF is a Schedule 2 state owned diversified energy company reporting to the Department of Mineral & Petroleum Resources. The Mandate of CEF is to contribute to the security of energy supply of South Africa and the Region through exploration, acquisition, development, marketing and strategic partnership. JOB PURPOSE:

To provide operational finance support through the accurate processing of accounts payable transactions and the verification, recording and control of fixed assets, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, internal controls, tax requirements, and audit expectations.

 REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • National Certificate (NQF 5) in Accounting, Finance, Asset Management or equivalent qualification.
  • A minimum of One year experience in a similar role
  • A National Diploma (NQF 6) in Accounting, Finance, Asset Management or related field will serve as an added advantage.

DESIRED ADDITIONAL SKILLS/ COMPETENCIES:

  • Basic knowledge of accounts payable processes and internal controls.
  • Basic knowledge of accounting principles relating to expenses, liabilities and fixed assets.
  • Knowledge of capitalisation vs expensing principles.
  • Knowledge of depreciation concepts and asset lifecycle management.
  • Sound knowledge of VAT / GST and withholding tax principles applicable to AP and cashbook transactions.
  • Knowledge of asset verification, reconciliation and tagging processes.
  • Understanding of audit processes and documentation requirements related to finance and assets.
  • Accurate invoice processing and data capturing.
  • Physical asset verification and inspection skills.
  • Reconciliation of supplier statements, asset registers and bank statements.
  • Cashbook processing and VAT recording.
  • Investigation and resolution of discrepancies.
  • Record-keeping and report preparation.
  • Ability to work to deadlines and follow approval workflows.
  • Clear and professional communication with suppliers and internal stakeholders.

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS:

Invoice Processing & Verification

  • Process supplier invoices accurately and on time; verify invoices against purchase orders, contracts and delivery notes.

Approval & Payment Control Compliance

  • Ensure invoices are properly authorised before processing; follow delegated authority and payment controls.

Accounts Payable Recording & Payments

  • Capture approved invoices; prepare and process payments (bank transfers, cheques, electronic payments).

Vendor Reconciliations & Query Resolution

  • Reconcile supplier statements and resolve discrepancies and vendor queries.

Cashbook Processing & VAT Recording

·       Process cashbook transactions from bank statements and correctly record input and output VAT.

Fixed Asset Register Maintenance

  • Maintain and update the fixed asset register with asset cost, location, custodian, condition and status.

Physical Asset Verification & Tagging

  • Perform periodic physical asset verification; tag and label assets to ensure proper identification.

Asset Discrepancy Identification & Reporting

  • Identify and report missing, damaged or obsolete assets and support investigations

Asset Movement & Disposal Support

  • Assist with recording asset transfers, disposals and write-offs in coordination with departments.

Accounting and Depreciation Support

  • Assist with verification of capitalisation vs expensing and ensure depreciation is calculated per policy.

Audit and Compliance Support

  •  Prepare AP and asset verification schedules and support internal and external audits.
